Smoked Sausage Caprese Pasta Bake

This wonderful dish has something for everyone.  Lots of cheese, smoked sausage and incredible flavor.  The base layer is like a Mac N Cheese!

Ingredients

—2 Links-Queen City Sausage-Smoked Sausage.  Cut into 1/2 pieces

—6 OZ Queen City Sausage-Smoked Cottage Ham (Butt).  Thin sliced-small pieces

—1 LB. Pasta shells

—2 Cups Whole milk

—3.5 Cups Cheddar-shredded

—2 Tomatoes.  Sliced thin—3 TBLS Butter

—2 TBLS Basil pesto

—2.5 TBLS Flour

—1/2 TSP Salt

—1 TSP Oregano

—1/4 Cup Basil

—1/2 Cup Fresh Mozzarella

—2 TSP Olive oil

Directions

  1. Prepare the pasta according to package instructions.  Al dente.  Drain and place in a large bowl.  Add about 2 TSP olive oil and blend.  Set aside

  2. Large skillet, medium-low heat.  Add the butter.  Once melted, whisk in flour and keep stirring for about one minute.  Whisk in the milk and bring to a simmer.  Whisk for about 7 minutes to thicken

  3. Add in pesto and 2 cups of cheddar.  Stir until cheese is melted.  Pour over the pasta in the bowl.  Blend well

  4. Take an oven proof dish.  Place the pasta in the dish and add additional 1.5 cups of cheese

  5. Add the tomato slices.  Add the mozzarella and meats

  6. Bake for about 30 minutes at 350 degrees F.  Top with fresh basil
